Wedding Invitation Checklist

Below, in chronological order, are the tasks you need to complete to assemble and send your wedding invitations. While invitations should be mailed four to six weeks prior to your wedding, you should start planning to assemble and mail them even before you select the pieces. The purpose of this checklist is to act as a reference guide as you actually work through assembling your invitations.

It is based on the BridalTrack Invitation Guide which provides the details of the entire process. Feel free to bookmark this checklist, print it out, email it and use it in whatever manner that fits you. Also, remember that this is just a guide. Whenever you want to change a step, omit a step, or go into greater detail about anything listed on this checklist be sure to do it. Make sure your invitations end up just like you envision them.

Response cards should fit into the response envelopes.
 B.
Inner invitation envelope should hold its pieces.
 
 1.
Response envelope.
 
 2.
Invitation card.
 
 3.
Invitation tissue.
 
 4.
Other items (i.e. map, etc.).
 C.
Inner invitation envelope should fit into outer invitation envelope.
 D.
Assemble a test invitation to check for less obvious issues.
 
 1.
Make sure the pieces look good together.
 
 2.
Remove the contents to make sure nothing arises when your guests open them.
 
 3.
Possibly mail it to yourself to get the full experience of receiving it.
 E.
Go to the post office.
 
 1.
Get an estimate for how much an assembled invitation will cost to mail.
 
 2.
Select the stamps you want to use.
 
 3.
Get enough postage, don't forget about postage paid response envelopes.
 F.
Double check the finished materials.
 
 1.
Colors, paper stock and every detai is exactly what you ordered.
 
 2.
Check grammar and spelling on pieces.

 A.
Envelopes will be addressed by hand.
 
 1.
Address envelopes while they are empty to prevent marring other pieces.
 
 2.
Make sure handwriting on all envelopes of an invitation is the same.
 
 3.

 B.
Outer invitation envelopes.
 
 1.
Must include mailing address of guest.
 
 2.
Must be legible, do not make the writing overly ornate.
 
 3.
Put return address on back flap of envelope.
 C.
Inner invitation envelopes.
 
 1.
Used as an elegant presentation for the invitation, serves no mailing purpose.
 
 2.
Shows just the guest's title and last name on it.
 D.
Response envelopes.
 
 1.
Choose an address to use for its return.
 
 2.
Use that address as main and return address on the envelope.
 
 3.
Write reference number of guest on it for tracking purposes.
 
 4.

Inner invitation envelopes contents (from top to bottom).
 
 1.
Invitation card goes in face up (will be furthest piece from envelope's flap.
 
 2.
Tissue on top of invitation card.
 
 3.
Response envelope on top of tissue, be sure to affix postage.
 
 4.
Response card on top of return envelope and underneath its flap.
 
 5.
Other items (these will be closest to the flap of the inner invitation envelope.
 B.
Inner invitation envelope goes unsealed into outer invitation envelope.
 C.
Affix postage to outer invitation envelope and invitation is complete.

 A.
Review completed invitation for errors.
 
 1.
Smeared ink.
 
 2.
Misspellings.
 
 3.
Correct number of invitations.
 
 4.
Invitation have all their pieces.
 B.
Make sure you are happy with the invitations.
 
 1.
Look them over and make sure they meet your approval.
 
 2.
Review the list you made of how you envisioned them turning out.
 C.
Mail them.
 
 1.
Get them hand cancelled at the post office to save some wear and tear on them.
 
 2.
Do not second guess yourself, you did them correctly.
